Our Story

In 2017 we said "Build it and they will come”.

In March 2016, I was asked to attend a meeting at the Bolton College Community site on Central Drive, Westhoughton. This was in relation to the college moving resources from the centre and classes being moved to Bolton town centre. I made a pledge as Councillor for Westhoughton South, that I would fight for this centre to remain open and become a true community centre in the heart of our town.

I enlisted the help of Councillor David Chadwick, and together we approached the leaders of Bolton MBC to ask if we could take the centre over, building a community team and open the building to the public. With a lot of hard work and dedication the centre opened its doors on 1st September, 2017 and The Hub began its journey. I have always said “If we build it, they will come” (from the film “Field of Dreams”) During COVID, I became the CEO and In 2021 we became a charity. From humble beginnings we now welcome around 3000 people a week to our centre, providing an extensive range of services and activities to the community and beyond!

Our Mission

Our vision places The Hub at Westhoughton, at the heart of the community, providing a sustainable, secure, culturally diverse and accessible space that is valued and supported by the people of the local district and community.

Our mission is to promote, enable and facilitate inclusive activities, which embrace and address the education, training, employment, welfare, health, social, cultural and recreational needs of the local community and district.

The centre hosts a number of activities, provides support for a number of community groups and small local businesses. All programmes are ran to support community activities, interests and needs for the community and local areas.
